Warranty Policy - Harrington Bookshop

WARRANTY POLICY

Limited warranty coverage and terms

This Warranty Policy sets out the terms under which HARRINGTON BOOKSHOP SDN. BHD. provides limited warranty coverage for products sold directly through our Website at www.harringtonbookshop.com and through our official stores on Shopee, Lazada, TikTok Shop, and other authorised platforms. This Policy must be read together with our Terms and Conditions of Sale and Use, Return/Refund/Cancellation Policy, and Privacy Policy. This limited warranty complies with the Consumer Protection Act 1999 (Malaysia), the Sale of Goods Act 1957, and equivalent consumer rights principles applicable to sales in Singapore and the wider Southeast Asian region.

1 Warranty Coverage

✓ 3 MONTH LIMITED WARRANTY

All refurbished electronic products sold by Harrington Bookshop include a three (3) month limited warranty commencing from the date of delivery as verified by the courier's tracking record.

What's Covered
  • Defects in materials and workmanship that manifest during normal consumer use
  • Manufacturing defects under normal use conditions
  • Products that undergo our 21-step professional inspection, testing, and restoration process

For new, unused products, warranty coverage is governed by the original manufacturer's warranty, if applicable, and may extend beyond the Company's limited period.

This warranty covers manufacturing defects in materials or workmanship under normal use. It does not cover consumables such as batteries, screen protectors, accessories, or cosmetic wear and tear. Warranty coverage lasts for the period stated at purchase (typically three (3) months). Repaired or replacement units carry the remaining balance of the original warranty or thirty (30) days, whichever is longer.

2 Warranty Remedies

Where a valid claim is accepted within the warranty period, the Company's sole and exclusive remedies are limited to one of the following, at our discretion:

1
One-to-One Exchange
Replacement with an identical or equivalent product of the same model and specifications
2
Full Refund
If a replacement of equivalent value is unavailable
3
Repair
Only if expressly approved by the Company in writing (rare and subject to parts availability)
Important: All replacements provided under warranty are refurbished or equivalent-grade units, not necessarily brand new. The replacement product inherits the remaining balance of the original warranty period and does not renew or extend it. The Company's liability is capped at the original purchase price of the product.

Where an identical model or colour is unavailable, the Company may replace it with an equivalent or higher-specification product of equal or greater value.

3 Conditions for Valid Warranty Claims

Warranty claims must be initiated by contacting harringtonbookshop@gmail.com within the three (3) month coverage period. The request must include:

  • Order number and proof of purchase
  • Photographs or videos demonstrating the defect
  • Serial number or identifiable device information (if applicable)
Claim Process Requirements
  • Customers must obtain a Warranty Return Authorisation (WRA) number prior to sending back any product
  • Items returned without WRA may be rejected
  • All returns must include original packaging (where available), accessories, and documentation
  • Returned products are inspected by our technical team to verify the claimed fault
Customers must submit clear photo or video evidence of the defect when making a claim. The item must be returned in its original packaging with all included accessories. Claims without sufficient proof may not be processed. If no defect is found, the item will be returned to the Customer at the Customer's expense.

  • Software malfunctions or operating system errors caused by third-party installations or user configuration
  • Loss, theft, or accidental damage after delivery

5 Return Shipping and Responsibility

  • For approved warranty claims, Harrington Bookshop shall bear the cost of return shipping for customers in Malaysia and Singapore
  • For international customers (outside Malaysia and Singapore), the Customer is responsible for shipping costs unless otherwise agreed
  • Returned items remain the Customer's responsibility until received by the Company
  • Traceable courier methods are strongly recommended
Customers are responsible for safe packaging and return shipping when sending items for warranty service. The Company shall not be liable for transit damage caused by inadequate packaging or courier mishandling.

6 Inspection, Verification, and Resolution Timeline

Upon receipt of the returned product, inspection and testing typically occur within seven (7) working days.

Resolution Timeline
  • Inspection completed within 7 working days
  • Exchange or refund processed within 7 to 14 business days after verification
  • If defect was caused by user error or non-covered circumstances, claim will be denied
All returned items are subject to inspection and testing by the Company's technicians. The Company's assessment of the item's condition and eligibility for warranty shall be final and binding. If inspection shows the issue is non-warranty (e.g., user damage, liquid exposure, or software fault), a diagnostic fee of RM30–RM50 may apply before the item is returned.

7 Marketplace Purchases

For products purchased via authorised marketplace stores (Shopee, Lazada, TikTok Shop), this Warranty Policy applies concurrently with the respective marketplace's buyer protection and warranty mechanisms.

  • Warranty claims initiated on marketplaces must comply with the platform's prescribed procedures and timeframes
  • Where a marketplace platform provides stricter or additional protection, those rules shall prevail to the extent of inconsistency
  • The Company shall not be responsible for delays or losses arising from marketplace-controlled refund processes

8 Limitations of Liability

This warranty constitutes the exclusive remedy for defective products and supersedes all other express or implied warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, except to the extent prohibited by law.

The Company shall not, under any circumstances, be liable for indirect, consequential, or incidental losses, including but not limited to loss of data, business interruption, loss of profits, or emotional distress. Nothing in this Policy excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under applicable Malaysian consumer law.

The Company's liability is limited to repair or replacement of the defective product (or refund where expressly provided). The Company shall not be liable for any data loss, loss of use, or indirect, consequential, or incidental damages arising from product malfunction.

9 Consumer Rights and Legal Compliance

This limited warranty is provided in addition to, and not in substitution for, your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 1999 (Malaysia) and any other mandatory laws applicable in your jurisdiction.

Where the law of Singapore or another Southeast Asian country offers equivalent consumer protection, those rights shall remain unaffected. Customers residing outside Malaysia are advised that the governing law and forum for resolution remain as provided under the Company's Terms and Conditions (Malaysian jurisdiction).

10 Data Handling in Warranty Processing

All Personal Data collected during a warranty claim (including name, contact information, and proof of purchase) will be processed strictly in accordance with our Privacy Policy, the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Malaysia), and the PDPA 2012 (Singapore).

Such data will only be used for the verification and administration of warranty claims and will not be disclosed to unauthorised parties.

11 Amendments and Updates

Harrington Bookshop reserves the right to modify, update, or replace this Warranty Policy at any time.

  • Revised versions will be published on our Website with the updated Effective Date
  • Continued purchase or use of our products constitutes acknowledgment and acceptance of the revised Policy
Any disputes arising from warranty claims shall first be referred to mediation at the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) in Kuala Lumpur before legal proceedings. This Policy is governed exclusively by the laws of Malaysia.
