Return, Refund & Cancellation Policy

Fair and transparent return and refund guidelines

This Return, Refund, and Cancellation Policy governs all product purchases made through www.harringtonbookshop.com and through our official stores on Shopee, Lazada, TikTok Shop, and any other authorised e-commerce platforms. By placing an order with Harrington Bookshop, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by this Policy, which is designed to ensure compliance with the Consumer Protection Act 1999 (Malaysia), the Sale of Goods Act 1957, and related consumer rights legislation applicable to online commerce.

1 Eligibility for Return, Exchange, or Refund

We accept returns, exchanges, or refund requests only under the following circumstances:

  • The item received is defective in functionality
  • The item received is incorrect or not as described
  • The item is damaged in transit prior to delivery
✗ NOT ELIGIBLE FOR REFUND
  • Change of mind or customer ordering errors
  • Cosmetic imperfections inherent to refurbished products (light scratches, scuffs, or minor casing wear)
  • Items showing signs of wear, user damage, or tampering
  • Items returned without prior authorization
  • Software or digital items once activated
  • Products sold under clearance, sale, or preorder categories
Important: All refurbished items are sold as professionally restored units that may show minimal wear while remaining fully functional. To qualify for a return, items must be in their original condition, unused, with all tags, packaging, and accessories intact.

2 Return and Inspection Process

Customers must initiate a return request within seven (7) calendar days from the date of delivery, as confirmed by courier tracking.

Video Proof Required: For defective or damaged item claims, customers must provide a clear unboxing video showing the parcel's condition at the time of opening. Claims submitted without full video or photographic proof may not be processed.

3 Refund Conditions and Timeline

If a return is approved, we will process a replacement or refund as appropriate. Refunds will be issued via the original payment method used at checkout.

Refund Processing Timeline
  • Refunds completed within 7 to 14 business days after item inspection
  • Original shipping cost refunded for confirmed defects or errors
  • Restocking fee of up to 10% may apply to non-defective returns

4 Exchanges and Warranty Interaction

For refurbished devices, defects reported within three (3) months of delivery are covered under our Warranty Policy, which provides a one-to-one exchange for the same model (or closest equivalent, where unavailable).

The replacement unit carries the remaining balance of the original warranty period and does not restart a new warranty term.

5 Return Shipping Responsibility

If the return is due to a defective product, incorrect item, or transit damage, the Company shall bear the reasonable cost of return shipping or provide a prepaid return label where available.

In all other cases, including goodwill returns or cases where the item is found not defective after inspection, the Customer shall bear all return shipping costs. For international customers, return shipping fees and any associated import or customs charges shall be borne by the Customer unless otherwise required by law.

6 Cancellation by Customer

Orders may be cancelled only before shipment. Once an order has been dispatched and a tracking number issued, the order is considered final and cannot be cancelled.

Important Notice

The Company reserves the right to reject or permanently block customers who repeatedly file false or excessive refund or damage claims. Pre-orders and custom items are strictly non-cancellable once payment is confirmed.

7 Cancellation by Harrington Bookshop

The Company reserves the right to cancel any order before dispatch due to:

  • Stock unavailability
  • Pricing or description errors
  • Payment authorization failure
  • Suspected fraud, abuse, or policy violation
  • Force majeure or logistical failure beyond our control

In such cases, the customer will receive a full refund of all amounts paid.

8 Marketplace Purchases

For purchases made via official marketplace stores (Shopee, Lazada, TikTok Shop), this Policy applies concurrently with the respective platform's return and refund procedures. Customers must initiate marketplace refunds through the platform's dispute resolution system.

9 Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

This Policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Malaysia. Any dispute arising from or relating to this Policy shall first be referred to mediation at the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) in Kuala Lumpur before court proceedings.

10 Amendments and Updates

Harrington Bookshop reserves the right to revise, update, or modify this Policy at any time to reflect changes in legal or operational requirements. Any amendments shall take effect upon publication on our Website with the revised Effective Date clearly stated.
