Refund Policy

Fair and transparent return and refund guidelines

This Refund Policy explains the circumstances under which Harrington Bookshop ("the Company", "we", "us") accepts returns, issues refunds, or provides replacements. By purchasing from us, you acknowledge and agree to the terms below. This Policy is designed to ensure transparency, fairness, and compliance with applicable laws including the Malaysian Consumer Protection Act 1999, while also protecting our business.

1. Eligibility for Returns and Refunds

You may request a return and refund or exchange only in the following cases:

  • Defective Product: The item has a manufacturing defect or malfunction not caused by misuse or damage after delivery. This includes Dead-on-Arrival (DOA) units or failures within the 3-month warranty period.
  • Incorrect Item Delivered: You received a different model, variant, or missing an essential part/accessory.
  • Significant Misdescription: The product materially differs from its description or images (excluding minor cosmetic differences).

2. Non-Eligible Situations

Refunds and returns will not be accepted under the following circumstances:

  • Buyer's remorse, change of mind, accidental order, or preference for a different model/color
  • The product is as described and functional but does not meet personal expectations or was found cheaper elsewhere
  • Minor cosmetic wear on refurbished units that does not affect functionality
  • Damage caused by misuse, neglect, accidents, liquid ingress, electrical faults due to incompatible chargers, or use in unsuitable environments
  • Unauthorized repairs, modifications, or tampering by non-authorized service providers
  • Expiration of the 3-month warranty period
  • Items sold as clearance, final sale, or "as-is" explicitly marked as non-returnable

3. Return Procedure

To initiate a return, follow these steps:

Email harringtonbookshop@gmail.com with order number, issue description, and supporting evidence (photos/videos)

Get Authorization
If eligible, we'll issue Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) and return instructions

Package Securely
Items must include all accessories. Use original packaging where possible

Ship Item
Customer pays return shipping unless our error. Use insured, trackable shipping

Technical Inspection
Our team tests the product within 5–7 business days to confirm eligibility

Important: We are not liable for returns lost or damaged in transit. Customers are responsible for return shipping unless the return is due to our error (e.g., incorrect item).

Inspection Process: Upon receipt, our technical team will test the product within 5–7 business days. Refunds or replacements are only processed once eligibility is confirmed.

4. Refund Method and Timeline

Approved refunds will be processed as follows:

Refund Processing Times:
  • Credit/Debit Cards & PayPal: 5–10 business days for funds to appear
  • Online Banking/Bank Transfers: 3–7 business days (bank details required)
  • Cash on Delivery Orders: Refunds via bank transfer or store credit
  • Marketplace Purchases: Refunds processed through respective platform (Shopee, Lazada, Amazon, etc.)

Refund Coverage: Refunds include the product price and standard shipping fee if the entire order is returned due to our fault. Partial returns are refunded proportionally. Customs duties and taxes are not refundable. We reserve the right to deduct restocking fees, shipping costs, or customs charges if applicable.

5. International Returns

International customers must declare returns as 'Returned Goods' with zero commercial value to avoid import duties. If duties are charged to us due to improper declaration, such amounts may be deducted from the refund. Lithium battery devices must comply with courier restrictions. International returns may take longer due to transit and customs.

6. Marketplace Purchases

For items purchased through third-party marketplaces, refund requests must be initiated via the platform's system. We will honor warranty obligations directly if issues arise after the marketplace's return window but within our 3-month warranty.

7. Limitations of Liability

Our liability is limited as per our Terms & Conditions. We are not responsible for:

  • Loss or damage of data stored on returned devices
  • Indirect losses such as missed opportunities or consequential damages
  • Items returned outside of procedures stated in this policy

Our remedy is strictly limited to repair, replacement, or refund of the defective item.

8. Goodwill Exceptions

While we adhere strictly to this policy, Harrington Bookshop may, at its sole discretion, offer goodwill resolutions (such as exchanges with payment of price differences) in cases not strictly covered. Such accommodations are voluntary and non-precedent-setting.

9. Governing Law

This Refund Policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Malaysia. Any disputes arising hereunder shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of Malaysian courts.
